José Ramón Boix Mesado was born in Burriana (Castellón) Spain in 1955, and is the place where he lives. He studied at the Salesian College of Burriana and Agricultural Technical Engineering in Valencia. He worked more than 28 years in a multinational company dedicated to Plant Protection. Today he is retired.
At the end of 2007 he decided to start wood carving as a hobby and self-taught. Visiting infinity of Internet pages, watching YouTube videos, buying books, DVDs. The first steps were following tutorials from Asturtalla's friends page.
His first carvings were bas-reliefs with floral motifs, which soon became high-reliefs (a challenge in seeking difficulty).
Getting the tools to develop this hobby was the first difficulty, since there are no establishments near Burriana. The Internet solved everything, and little by little it was acquiring the necessary tools for the different carving modalities that it has been developing.
Without looking for it, he had access to Ian Norbury's Blog, considered one of the best wood carvers in the world, as well as an excellent pedagogue. From that moment on he did not inquire further and devoted himself to following all the teachings that Ian Norbury had published and has continued to publish (books, DVDs and his website). He considers Ian Norbury his master in this art of wood carving.
He is currently engaged in perfecting the technique and increasing the level of difficulty of his work.
